This scene is a concept development environment for an experimental open world RPG. My goal was to create a mildly stylized aesthetic that still felt realistic. I was partly inspired by Simon Stalenhag’s “The Electric State”, as well as my time spent exploring California’s northern coastline in person. I used a combination of 2D digital painting techniques in Photoshop for the foliage, and 3D texturing with Quixel Mixer for the architectural models and rocks. The large cliffs are retextured photoscanned chunks of petrified wood scaled up to a larger size, while the rectangular stepping stone is hand sculpted. All models and textures are custom, except for the sky and the UE4 mannequin. Software used: Blender, Unreal Engine 4, Photoshop, Quixel Suite | Started in 2021
